Location: Camberwell
Duration: 12 weeks
Budget: $125-150k
Scope: Complete Home Renovation – Kitchen, Flooring, Doors/Windows, Painting
Brief: The brief for this renovation started with the clients wanting to create a larger open kitchen to flow into the living space. They wanted a design that included an island with dining table seating, and highlighted the wonderful view of the city.
Starting with the structural changes, we decided to install larger glass doors to replace the existing doors onto the balcony. These doors would highlight the view of the city, and bring even more natural light into the space.
The best use of the space was to create an island that ran the length of the room, and opens the kitchen up to the living room. Visually the clients wanted to create an earthy toned space, utilising rattan, timber and concrete textures. The tall cabinetry became a subtle feature of the kitchen, using painted rattan as the centre panel for the cabinetry.
The stronger feature of the space is the island, finished in a light oak veneer with a concrete benchtop. We carried the timber to a long floating shelf, allowing natural light to pour down from the skylights above.
Sanding and polishing the existing floorboards created the perfect surface to the space, bringing more warmth into the room.
